ATLANTA — A woman's body was found Thursday afternoon near an Atlanta park, according to police.
Detectives canvassed the area by Anderson Park after getting the call about an unconscious woman found at 2090 Tiger Flowers Dr. NW around 2:20 p.m., according to Atlanta Police Department news release.
Police wouldn't discuss how the woman may have died but are investigating it as a homicide. The medical examiner later told 11Alive on Monday the victim is identified as 30-year-old Jamesha Trammel.
"There are several items of probative value and some additional items of evidentiary value that are being taken from the scene so we are confident at this point to rule it a homicide," Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said on Thursday.
Homicide investigators could be seen focusing their investigation on a trail leading into the park, next to the intersection of Tiger Flowers Drive and Croecus Ave. They also spent time searching a wooded area inside the park alongside the trail.
Woolfolk added that investigations are now using the evidence found to determine what might have led to Trammel's death.
Anderson Park and the surrounding streets are split between two neighborhoods, Dixie Hills and Penelope Neighbors. APD crime data for 2021 shows there have been a total of 87 crimes in the area.
Twenty-one of the crimes have been reported as aggravated assaults, but 72 percent of the total crime is listed as crimes against property not against individuals.
