GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 31-year-old is facing murder charges after a shooting where a man was killed in front of a Gwinnett County gas station.
Gwinnett County Police said officers arrested Donte Dieal Newcomb-Donnelly and charged him with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Police identified the victim who died as 41-year-old Anthony Bernard Miles.
Officers responded to the gas station on Oct. 11, located at 4169 Jimmy Carter Blvd, where they found a man who shot in the parking lot of the business, which appears to be the address for the Amoco gas station.
He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, according to Gwinnett County Police. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and started interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
At the time of the initial investigation, police said they didn't have a motive for the shooting. However, police said the suspect approached the victim before the shooting happened; they then left the scene.
Officers set up a perimeter around the area but could not locate the shooter. Officers announced on Oct. 17 that Newcomb-Donnelly had been arrested in connection with the crime.
An 11Alive crew was sent to the scene, where there appeared to be crime scene tape surrounding the gas station with several police patrol cars in the area.
