DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 24-year-old man has learned his sentence for his involvement in a deadly shooting that stemmed from an altercation in 2021.
A DeKalb County jury found Issac Thompson guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection to the 2021 death of Aquandis Foston.
After the guilty verdict, Judge Yolanda Parker-Smith sentenced the 24-year-old to life without the possibility of parole plus five years.
The deadly shooting happened on February 20, 2021.
Records showed that Thompson's girlfriend and co-defendant, 21-year-old Makayla Bolston, allegedly texted and called Foston inviting him over to her townhome on Wells Circle in Stone Mountain, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office. Bolston's relationship with the victim is unclear.
When the victim showed up, Thompson and another unknown man confronted Foston and told him to leave. Foston told Thompson that he refused to leave until he spoke to Bolston. Thompson and Foston continued arguing. That's when prosecutors said Thompson pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the chest and then ran away.
Bolston was indicted in August 2021 for changes of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Prosecutors allege she lured the victim to the townhomes and, ultimately to his death. Her case is still pending.
