Cobb County elementary teacher's estranged husband allegedly shoots, kills her after breaking into home twice

On Saturday, the teacher's estranged husband reportedly broke into her home, located on Topaz Drive in Dallas, twice before shooting and killing her, deputies said.

DALLAS, Ga. — A Cobb County community is left heartbroken after an elementary teacher's life was taken from her on Saturday.

Jasmyn Lambert was a third grade teacher at Still Elementary School.

On Saturday, the teacher's estranged husband allegedly broke into her home, located on Topaz Drive in Dallas, twice before shooting and killing her, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office

A district spokesperson released the following statement on her death:

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our third grade teachers. Jasmyn Lambert’s big smile was welcoming to all, her classroom couldn’t wait to see her every day. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, and the entire Still community who already miss her. Grief counselors are at school this week to support students and staff and we do ask you to give our school family privacy during this time of grief.”

The sheriff's office said it all started when a guest visiting the home called 911 for the domestic dispute and home invasion. Deputies said the estranged husband, 42-year-old Tyron Lambert, reportedly forced his way into the home through the back door, pointing a gun and threatening everyone in the home.

Once the 42-year-old man was made aware that authorities were called, he then ran away before they arrived. Paulding deputies then put out a "Be On the Lookout" for the man his car.

A second call was then made when the 42-year-old allegedly broke into the home a second time, and deputies ran to the teacher's home. Before they could even get inside the home, Tyron Lambert reportedly fired the deadly shot, killing his estranged wife.

The Hiram man is being charged with the following:

  • Felony murder - family violence
  • Felony malice murder
  • Home invasion/burglary
  • First degree criminal damage to property
  • Two counts of first degree cruelty to children
  • Criminal trespass
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Two counts of aggravated assault
  • Obstruction

Tyron Lambert is being held at the Paulding County Jail without bond. Deputies said he could face more charges.
