JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A deputy in Jones County was arrested and fired after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they found child pornography at his home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the deputy was arrested Thursday after their Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit was tipped off about child pornography being downloaded by a resident in Jones County.

With the help of the GBI's Milledgeville office and the Jones County Sheriff's Office, investigators were able to trace the pornographic material to a home in Gray, Georgia. Authorities obtained a search warrant, and GBI agents and digital forensic investigators seized electronic devices with the child sex abuse material.

After reviewing the evidence, they arrested the 42-year-old man, who is now facing two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of distribution of child pornography. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail.

During the investigation, authorities learned that the man worked as a deputy with the sheriff's office. According to the GBI, he was immediately terminated from his position.

“The sexual exploitation of children will not be tolerated at any level, particularly from those in law enforcement that are sworn to protect,” said GBI.
