Car break-in turns into shooting at Midtown apartment complex: Police

Officers received a call shortly after midnight stating that a man had been shot in The Dagny Apartment complex parking lot.

ATLANTA — Police are gathering evidence at an apartment in Midtown after a car breaking turned into a shooting on Friday morning.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers received a call shortly after midnight stating that a man had been shot in The Dagny Apartment complex parking lot. That's located in northeast Atlanta on Juniper Street.

Officers said a man saw several others in ski masks breaking into his car in the parking lot. He confronted them and the suspects jumped in a car, driving away. APD said that's when one of them fired a gun at the man, hitting him in the stomach.

He was able to tell the apartment concierge he'd been shot and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police said the man is expected to be ok, adding that residents in this position should not confront suspects but always call 911.

APD is working to gather video surveillance of the parking garage from the complex and determine what the suspects were driving. No other information was released.
