Passenger allegedly groped woman in Lyft, Duluth Police say

Officers said the victim turned around to see Antonio Cartagena partially nude and "engaging in lewd acts."

DULUTH, Ga. — A rideshare passenger is facing charges of sexual battery and public indecency after allegedly inappropriately touching a woman in a Lyft on Tuesday.

According to the Duluth Police Department, 25-year-old Antonio Cartagena was riding in the backseat when he reached up and groped a 55-year-old woman. Officers didn't specify whether the woman was driving the vehicle or not.

Officers said the victim turned around to see Cartagena partially nude and "engaging in lewd acts." He then allegedly got out of the car and fled before officers could arrive.

However, detectives said they were successfully able to identify and arrest Cartagena later that day. Bodycam video from the police department shows the moment officers confronted the man and arrested him at an apartment complex.

At this time, he's in the Gwinnett County Jail. However, police are asking anyone who has had a similar experience involving Cartagena to contact Detective Javier Bahamundi at (678) 512-3708.
