CANTON, GA -- Police in Cherokee County have identified the man killed outside a Mexican restaurant.
Canton police said 41-year-old Edel Cortes Mendoza was shot outside the La Taqueria Oaxaquena restaurant on Marietta Road. He was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Canton Police located a suspect within a perimeter later in the evening. The suspect, 41-year-old Ylarrio Garcia Jarquin, was booked into the Cherokee County jail and charged with murder.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP), GSP Aviation Unit, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) and the CCSO K9 Unit responded have been assisting in the investigation.
