TUCKER, Ga. — Twelve days after a taxi cab driver was shot to death and one day after the DeKalb Police Department released surveillance photos of a person of interest, that man was arrested and charged with murder.
Brian McGhee was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in the shooting death of Zenon Perez on July 14.
Perez was shot and killed inside of his taxi cab off Henderson Mill Rd. at the Sierra Hills Apartments in Tucker.
EMS was the first to arrive on the scene in what was initially believed to be a wreck. However, when Perez was pulled from his vehicle, they discovered he was shot.
On Thursday, police released footage of a man believed to be involved in the crime. At around 10:50 p.m., Perez left the Chamblee MARTA Station where he picked up an extra fare, one that he was not dispatched to by his company. Photos were shared of the believed passenger, now identified as McGhee, on the MARTA train.
“It appears that the only person that walks toward the taxi stand where Mr. Perez was parked is a black male wearing a book bag," Det. Doug Paden told 11Alive News earlier this week. "The male gets in on the driver side and sits behind Mr. Perez.”
McGhee has been booked in the DeKalb County Jail and was denied bond in his first court appearance.
