ATLANTA — A DeKalb County man has been convicted for shooting and killing another in the back of the head at a Stone Mountain gas station back in 2020.
On Monday, Jedidja Mbungu, 30, was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to a release on the investigation, on Aug. 29, 2020, Mbungu traveled to the gas station on S. Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, armed with a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest under his shirt. Authorities said he knew the victim, 20-year-old De'Andre Jones and was aware he visited the gas station frequently.
A security guard witnessed Mbungu pointing out Jones and noting that the victim did not have a gun, the release added.
The two eventually crossed paths in the middle of Rockbridge Road, according to authorities. They added that as Jones continued walking, Mbungu ran back toward him, yelling before pulling out his gun and shooting Jones.
Jones was eventually found by DeKalb County Police in the middle of the road, shot in the back of the head.
Mbungu turned himself in at the DeKalb County Jail on Sept. 4.
He has been sentenced to life in prison plus five years suspended for the firearm charge.
