ATLANTA – A driver found with a gunshot wound to his head Friday morning has died.
The medical examiner's office tells 11Alive that 39-year-old Rodrigo Castillo of Mableton died from his injuries.
Police said they received a 911 call around 12:30 a.m. Friday for shots fired in the area of Interstate 20 westbound at the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive exit.
"There were multiple shots fired, said Lt. Andrea Webster of APD.
Officials found a 33-year-old driver inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his head. Police said he was the only person in the stopped vehicle located in the far right lane on I-20 WB.
"We did not find any weapons inside his vehicle," Webster said. However, officers found two shell casings outside of the vehicle, suggesting someone was standing outside the car.
"It makes sense that it would have been another vehicle on the Interstate because of the location of the shooting," Lt. Webster said.
The victim was taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries.
Police do not know the motive of the shooting and do not have any information on possible suspects. Some in the community are concerned because there seems to me more questions than answers about what happened.
"I think it's bad. It's really bad," John Hamm said. "Come to any area makes you nervous when there is a shooting going on."
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact police.
