DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot by police on Thursday, according to authorities in DeKalb County.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man as 24-year-old Jeremiah Quincy Kinard of Auburn, Georgia.
According to the GBI, multiple Chamblee Police Officers were near Peachtree Boulevard and Chamblee-Dunwoody Road looking for a stolen Jeep Compass. Officers found the SUV parked in the lot of the Walgreens.
According to investigators, Kinard attempted to leave in the Jeep when officers approached him. At that point, an officer shot at Kinard and injured him.
The Chamblee Police Department did not initially specify what led up to the gunfire but did add that the driver was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The police officer involved in the incident has not been identified. Chamblee Police said the GBI would investigate.
