'Not a random act' | Man killed in DeKalb County subdivision knows the suspects, police say

A 20-year-old man was found shot multiple times, according to investigators.

LITHONIA, Ga. — Officers are investigating a fatal shooting in a Lithonia subdivision Thursday, according to the DeKalb County Police Department.

Police were called to Bear Mountain Street in the Mason Mill subdivision just before 2:30 p.m. They found a 20-year-old man dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the police department. Homicide detectives were called to assist with the investigation.

The 11Alive SkyTracker flew over the area where several law enforcement vehicles and police tape can be seen surrounding the subdivision. Officers were also in the neighborhood with K-9 officers.

11Alive's Cody Alcorn was at the scene and spoke with a neighbor who asked that we not identify her. She said she heard multiple shots fired and then saw her neighbor on the ground.

The woman said she's lived in the subdivision since it was built in 2020 and hadn't experienced a scene like this. She called the investigation shocking and concerning.

On Friday, police said the victim was acquainted with the suspects and said the shooting "was not a random act." Detectives are still following up on leads.
