BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A massive, hours-long search is still underway in Bartow County as of Thursday night, according to law enforcement at the scene.
Not many updates have been provided by the multiple agencies who've responded, but 11Alive's Cody Alcon said a source told him the incident stemmed from a chase earlier in the day that left a Bartow County Sheriff's Office K-9 deputy shot.
The chase ended just off I-75 and Highway 411, where authorities said they are looking for an armed and extremely dangerous man. A source said the man is wanted for domestic violence and kidnapping charges in Floyd County.
Law enforcement pursued the suspect until, the source reports, they executed a PIT maneuver, causing the suspect to crash near the Valero Gas Station at the Highway 411 scene. The Bartow County Sheriff's Office K-9 bit the suspect, who shot the canine deputy multiple times.
According to the source, the K-9 deputy was expected to survive, but the suspect fled a heavily wooded area.
Alcorn was at the scene late on Thursday and saw several law enforcement agencies -- including Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies and Georgia State Patrol's SWAT team. There was also a helicopter circling the scene from above.
A car was also seen in the grass just outside the Valero gas station, a quarter of a mile from the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville.
Alcorn reported that law enforcement described the search area as hundreds of acres and that officers on the scene had their long rifles out, in addition to more officers arriving at the scene.
11Alive has contacted multiple agencies about the situation and is still waiting to learn more. However, Georgia State Patrol confirmed they are assisting the Bartow County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
