2 Smyrna police officers shot, suspect killed at gun store in Cobb County, police say

SMYRNA, Ga. — Two Smyrna police officers are shot, and a suspect is dead early Saturday morning at a gun store in Cobb County, police said.

Cobb County Police said its agency was called out to the Adventure Outdoors to assist Smyrna Police when there was a shooting involving several officers. It's unclear the extent of the two officers' injuries, but they are expected to survive.

Cobb County Police officers quickly responded to an emergency request and when they arrived, they engaged the suspect at the Adventure Outdoors and shot and killed the suspect inside the store, the agency said. Cobb Police said the suspect was attempting to burglarize the store.

11Alive's Cody Alcorn is at the scene, where he confirmed that Smyrna Police, Cobb County Police, Cobb County Sheriff's Office, Marietta Police and Powder Springs Police have responded to the Adventure Outdoors, a large gun store in Smyrna.

Witnesses told 11Alive's Cody Alcorn they heard multiple gunshots, and then police swarmed the area.

SWAT teams gathered outside the doors of Adventure Outdoors. South Cobb Drive was completely closed in front of all the businesses for a period of time, but has since opened back up, and all the action is taking place in the parking lot of Adventure Outdoors.
