DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Emergency personnel responding to a medical call in DeKalb County initially thought they were met with gunfire on Thursday, according to DeKalb Fire Rescue. But DeKalb Police clarified on Thursday evening that was not the case.
Officers responded to an apartment complex on Paces Park Drive around 2 p.m. in reference to shots fired at DeKalb Fire Rescue medical first responders on a medical call. Fire officials told police they had forced entry into a home after receiving reports about a man having a heart attack. They knocked, but no one answered, police said.
When they entered, they said they saw a man pointing a gun at them. They retreated from the unit and believed they heard a gunshot.
Police said they talked with residents who told officers they thought they heard somebody breaking and entering into a unit and were being robbed. Those witnesses denied firing the gun, and police said that "evidence at the scene supported that claim."
There were no injuries, and the possible heart attack victim was found safe inside. There are no charges expected to be filed in the case.
