Meth crime ring bust leads to 26 arrests in north Georgia

CEDARTOWN, Ga. — For over a year, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has partnered with several north Georgia law enforcement agencies to track down the players in a major crime ring.

On Tuesday, the state agency released 31 names that had been identified in criminal warrants filed in roughly a month's time - with 26 of them already in custody.

Almost every person charged in the case has been tied to a massive methamphetamine trafficking investigation that predominantly involved people in Polk County, though, surrounding counties were involved as well.

The bust included undercover purchases which led to probable cause to issue search warrants at four addresses. Three of those, including 302 North College St., 3744 Antioch Rd. and 230 Merritt Ave. were at Cedartown addresses. A fourth, 1140 Dugdown Road, was listed in Buchanan.

In all, agents ended up seizing nine pounds of meth, three ounces of heroin, 18 guns and 18 prescription pills.

The announcement comes just days after a massive methamphetamine bust in Milton and Ellenwood. Those investigations were headed up by the Georgia Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and netted multiple arrests and 380 pounds of meth along with an undisclosed amount of unprocessed liquid meth. GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles said the DEA busts were unrelated to the one headed up by the state agency.
