MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Miami Beach that left one man injured.
Miami Beach Police said on Saturday that one of their officers was flagged down in reference to a man with a gun in the 500 block of Ocean Drive just before 9 p.m. The scene was in the famed South Beach area of town.
The department said the officer made contact with the armed man and fired his gun. Police said the suspect was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound. No officer was injured in the exchange.
Authorities haven't yet released details of how the confrontation led to a shooting. Neither the suspect nor the officer has been publicly identified.
Police said there is no threat to the public following the shooting. The investigation has been handed over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement per department policy.
