Police investigating suspected murder-suicide involving mother and daughter in DeKalb County

Officers said they responded just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County Police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide in which a mother and daughter died Sunday night.

At this time, there has been very little additional information offered by police.

What we do know is that this happened at the Polo Club Apartments on Ashley Creek Circle. Police said the daughter was 11 years old.

Officers said they found the mother and daughter just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

"Upon arrival, officers located two females deceased from a gunshot wound," a police statement said.

On X, DeKalb Police identified the 11-year-old girl as Makenzie B. and said she was a recent graduate of the department's Summer Survival Swim Program. An online fundraiser was set up later by her father, Monroe Starr, stating her full name is Makenzie Briddy.

DeKalb Police wrote: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Makenzie B., a recent graduate of our Summer Survival Swim Program, who was taken away from us way too soon. Once DKPD, always DKPD. #WeAreDKPD"
