Two dead in apparent murder-suicide in Tyrone, police say

Sonya Reid, 59, and a man believed to be her son, Khalid Auta, 32, were found dead in a car in Fayetteville, police said.

TYRONE, Ga. — A Tyrone mother and a man, investigators believe to be her son, are dead after an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday evening.

Sonya Reid, 59, and Khalid Auta, 32, were found dead in a car in Fayetteville, Tyrone Police said in a Facebook post.

It all started just before 9 p.m. when officers received a welfare check call from a woman who stated that the father of her child had killed his own mother the day before.

The woman told police that Auta allegedly held her and the child hostage overnight and had just released them before leaving the area in a car.

According to the police department, officers then discovered the suspect's car on fire. Authorities added that the suspect appeared to have died by suicide. Law enforcement also found Reid's body in the car.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
