Mother’s anguish felt in 911 call after she finds her son dead in Gwinnett apartment

It’s been four years since a mother walked in to an apartment and found her son and another man shot to death. Police are still searching for those responsible.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — “I got a call at work that there was a shooting that my son was involved in and I just arrived to the location and there’s no police in the apartment …. I just left my job and I come here and the door is open and they’re dead ….”

A mother’s heartbreaking 911 call has been released four years after she discovered her son’s dead body on the floor of an apartment in unincorporated Lawrenceville, in hopes that there will be new leads to solve his murder.

On Feb. 9, 2015, Dawn Hall-Porter received a phone call at work from an unknown person, who said her son was involved in a shooting. She told the 911 dispatcher that her older son had to leave his job in Alpharetta to pick her up from work and take her to apartment 5302 at 1400 Herrington Road.

“They gave us the address and everything and we arrived thinking the police would be here to find out what’s going on but there’s no cops here,” Hall-Porter frantically told the 911 dispatcher. “We go to knock on the door and it pushed open and you could see the bodies there.”

Hall-Porter’s son, 24-year-old Stacy Hall, was shot to death along with 22-year-old Kory Moss. The murders happened one week after Hall celebrated his 24th birthday.

“They’re dead,” she cried to the dispatcher. “How many people? I only see two. I didn’t go all the way in, but my son is one of them – Oh, Jesus! I didn’t think I’d have to find him this way.”

Four years later, police are still searching for leads in the double murder. Detectives from Gwinnett County Police pushed for more tips at the one-year anniversary of their deaths, but nothing happened and no suspects have ever been identified or charged in the crimes.

Hall-Porter finds it hard to believe that her son and his friend were shot and killed inside an apartment without any witnesses.

"There were multiple shots fired into a third-floor apartment ... there is an apartment here, one there," she mused. "You mean to tell me nobody heard anything?"

The one solid piece of evidence detectives have is a suspect vehicle – a tan or gold Ford Five Hundred. Detectives believe a white female was behind the wheel, but her identity is unknown.

“The hole in my life is everywhere because it’s been chaos ever since,” Hall-Porter told 11Alive, two years after her son’s death. “I pray for the parent of whoever this person is, because guess what? When you killed them two you killed yourself too.”

Stacy Hall, 24, was found shot to death in an apartment in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Feb. 9, 2015. His murder has not been solved.

Hall-Porter keeps a photo of her son on her living room mantle and on her phone, videos of visits to her son's grave.

"I will be here every year until I get to come home with you, to the Lord," she said.

She asked for anyone with information to come forward and talk to police.

“All of those walking around that knows something and you’re holding it, release yourself. That’s how I feel,” she said. “Who wants to carry around that burden? There isn't much (police) can do if people aren't speaking up. Please come forward, somebody, and tell the truth. That is all. Give us some closure."
