Justin Hess, 31

MARIETTA, Ga – Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the murder of his mother.

The suspect, Justin Hess, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a heavy police presence, including a SWAT team, surrounded the east Cobb community of Mulberry Farms.

According to Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce, officers responded Saturday night to reports of shots fired at 403 Bridle Path, NE. Police found the body of the woman inside the residence.

Police canvassed the community overnight and evacuated several nearby residences while they searched for the suspect, who police identified as the woman’s son.

The suspect reportedly returned to the residence around 10 a.m. on Sunday. That’s when police and SWAT teams moved in.

The suspect is also believed to be connected with a homicide in Sandy Springs.

Sandy Springs officials said that Hess was wanted in connection with a man found dead at a storage facility in the 6700 block of Roswell Road. Police arrived and later confirm the victim's death around 10 p.m. Police also believe the suspect switched vehicles, leaving a blue Mazda 3 taken from the original scene and driving away in a red Audi S5 that they later found back at the original scene in Cobb County.

“We were using a lot of caution in this case,” Pierce said. “The nature of their homicide and the nature of this one caused us to bring out our full resources to take this suspect into custody.”

Police also were using a bomb detection device to search the home after the suspect was arrested.

This story is continuing to develop.
