Police say suspect surrenders after being barricaded in Cobb County apartment

The situation unfolded early Tuesday morning just outside Smyrna city limits.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County Police said Tuesday morning, a 42-year-old man had surrendered and was in custody after being barricaded in an apartment.

Officers had responded to the apartment after the suspect allegedly "fired a shotgun toward multiple people he was with" during an altercation.

The incident unfolded at a location on Atlanta Road just outside Smyrna city limits.

Officers have indicated that there was an argument between a group of people that seemed to spiral out of control, with the suspect firing shots before retreating into the home.

The barricade situation began when officers arrived on scene and issued verbal commands, police said, at which point the suspect "shut the door in the officers' face."

Officers then obtained an arrest warrant for the man and a search warrant for his apartment. A SWAT team attempted to serve the warrant, but the 42-year-old did not comply.

Authorities were able to get a visual on the suspect and used a drone to track his movement, eventually taking him into custody.

The man was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and obstruction.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
