ATHENS, Ga. — Police are investigating a "suspicious death" after a person was found along a popular Athens trail not far from downtown.
Athens-Clarke County Police said that officers were called out to Trail Creek Trail, which is roughly a mile east of downtown, in response to an injured person at the intersection of Oakridge Avenue and Vine Street.
When officers got there, they found 48-year-old Santonio Coleman, who was severely injured and rushed to the hospital, where they died.
Police said they do not believe there is any danger to the public, but they are investigating the death as "suspicious" and deemed it a homicide.
If anyone has information about what happened, they are asked to contact Det. Bradshaw at 762-400-7323 or at Christina.Bradshaw@accgov.com.
