ATLANTA — A man faces false imprisonment charges for allegedly holding the mother of his child and their kid against their will on Friday, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
The police department received a call around 10 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute at a residence on Piedmont Avenue in northeast Atlanta. When officers arrived, they were told a woman and her child were being forced to stay inside the home.
Police said they believed the suspect was the child's father and later discovered he had several felony warrants for armed robbery, weapons charges, obstruction and probation violations.
While at the home, the officer said they made contact with the woman inside the home. APD added, "she appeared to be uncooperative, based on her statements, but mouthed 'help me' to officers." Police said she would not let them inside and did not leave the home.
Officers decided to set up a perimeter around the home and called in SWAT and Hostage Negotiators. Once on scene, negotiations were able to get the suspect to surrender. Police said he was taken into custody and that the woman and child were safe.
APD said the suspect, a 34-year-old, faces false imprisonment charges in the case and is in custody at the Fulton County Jail.
