Felony rape suspect taken into custody in DeKalb County neighborhood after hours-long standoff

As law enforcement worked to make the arrest, some streets in the neighborhood were blocked off.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A large police presence spotted in a cul-de-sac in DeKalb County Friday afternoon concerned neighbors. The scene, which played out for hours, led to the arrest of a 2021 rape suspect, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Multiple police cars, SWAT vehicles, and other unmarked, black SUVs were seen lining the street on to Lani Drive. 

11Alive sent a crew to the scene that learned authorities were in the area trying to apprehend a man accused of felony rape. The DeKalb Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office worked together on the apprehension.

Deputies said access to the neighborhood in Stone Mountain was blocked off for nearly five hours as SWAT and fugitive units worked with the DeKalb County Police to make the apprehension.

Authorities said the suspect, 45-year-old Cleon Duke, barricaded himself inside a home. He was eventually taken into custody without incident.
