Driver leads law enforcement on chase after hitting pedestrian, shooting from car, GSP says

Here's what we know.

ATLANTA — Police said a man suspected of a shooting sent them on a chase near downtown Atlanta.

On Sunday just before 2 a.m., Atlanta Police officers requested assistance in catching a driver of a Dodge Durango, who Georgia State Patrol said struck a pedestrian and was involved in a Buckhead area shooting.

They added that officers attempted to stop the driver on I-75 near 17th Street; however, the driver initiated a chase.

According to Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta Police called off their pursuit; however, a trooper later saw the vehicle traveling down I-75 at a high speed while making "erratic lane changes."

GSP added that the trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop but the driver continued to speed off. They also noted that the driver struck several vehicles while on the interstate, before exiting the vehicle and running away.

The trooper was eventually able to catch the driver. GSP added that he now faces charges but has not specified what they are.
