ATLANTA — Police said it appears that one person was shot early Sunday morning in the Riverside neighborhood of northwest Atlanta, although investigators said they are skeptical about the circumstances.
According to Atlanta Police, the incident happened in the 2400 block of Main Street at about 3:45 a.m.
Atlanta Police Captain T. Williams said when officers arrived, they encountered the male victim who said he had been shot in the chest. Williams said the victim did not show any signs of distress, however.
Williams said the victim took officers to the rear yard of the home and showed them where he had been standing when he was struck.
He said that investigators did not believe the victim's claims or explanation of what took place to be accurate.
According to Williams, investigators were not able to locate any evidence in the yard or at the home and they described the victim as very, very uncooperative.
Later information from Atlanta Police Officer Anthony Grant said the victim's mother indicated that the victim was shot by someone he was familiar with while throwing what was described as an "unauthorized party" at the location.
After investigators spoke with the victim, he was transported to a local hospital for his injuries in critical but stable condition.
Williams said the investigation remained ongoing.
