Walmart employee wanted in connection to double deadly shooting involving 9-year-old: Police

Police are searching for the suspect, 19-year-old Adrian Jelks.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — A Walmart employee is wanted in connection to a deadly double shooting that killed a teenager and injured a 9-year-old girl, according to the Fayetteville Police Department on Saturday.

Police are searching for the suspect, 19-year-old Adrian Jelks, after a shooting at the Walmart in the Fayette Pavilion shopping center on Friday night around 10 p.m. He's wanted for murder and aggravated assault. 

When officers arrived at the store on Friday, 19-year-old Antavius Holton was found shot, and a 9-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet and rushed to the hospital, police said. An update on Saturday stated Holton had died, but the child is expected to be OK. 

Police said they are actively working leads and have a 19-year-old woman in custody being "transported to the Fayette County Jail, pending warrants for party to a crime for the offenses of murder and aggravated assault."

11Alive's Cody Alcorn spoke to a witness who was at the Walmart when shots rang out. He said he was at the Walmart with his newborn baby, where he was buying a new PlayStation for his brother. When he heard the gunfire, he ran for cover with his baby.

Walmart provided a statement on Saturday: 

"We're heartbroken by what happened in our Fayetteville store Friday night and extend our sympathies to the loved ones of those involved. We are working with law enforcement to assist them in any way we can as they investigate."
