Police looking for gunman in Athens shooting death

Police discovered the body of a 51-year-old man in his apartment.

ATHENS, Ga. — Police in Athens said they are investigating the murder of a 51-year-old man they found inside an apartment.

They said it happened at the University Oaks apartment complex in the 2300 block of West Broad Street.

When officers responded to a shots fired call Thursday shortly after 12 noon, they discovered the body of David Burnette dead from what investigators said appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the incident. Tipsters may call 706-705-4775.
