DULUTH, Ga. -- Do you recognize this sweet face?
Police are trying to find the owners of this mystery dog who was brought to them at the end of February with several fractures in her legs.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, someone found the 6-month-old spaniel-mix puppy roaming around at the Columns at Club Drive apartment complex on February 27 and called 911.
When officers got there, they spotted the spaniel, who couldn't walk, and another black Labrador. Officers canvassed the complex and asked if anyone had seen the dogs before, but no one had. However, the property manager told police that they keys to an apartment were turned in just one day after the dogs were found.
Officers took the injured spaniel to a Gwinnett County shelter to get checked out, and radiographs found the puppy had several old fractures in her hind legs that had begun to heal. Veterinarians said the dog also had a few broken ribs. Vets operated on the spaniel to put pins in her legs, and she is now recovering well.
Authorities have now dubbed the dog Mandy and she is now in the Gwinnett County Jail Dog Program at the Gwinnett County Jail.
Investigators are still trying to find Mandy's owners and are asking anyone who may have clues in the case to contact Detective J. Maddox at 770-513-5300 or Animal Cruelty Investigators at 770-513-5700. Tipsters can also contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
