Father shoots, kills suspected home invader | Police call it a justified shooting

Police have identified the suspected home invader who was shot and killed Thursday morning.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are searching for two suspected home invaders after a man shot and killed one of their suspected accomplices early Thursday morning.

At 12:20 a.m., DeKalb police responded to a shooting call on the 1700 block of Thicket Way at the Covington Glen apartments. When they arrived, they found a deceased male, whom police have identified, but not released to the public.

According to police, three men had broken into the victim's apartment where he and his two young children lived.

The father then got into a physical altercation with all three armed suspects but was able to get to his own weapon, shooting and killing one of the suspects, with two women and two little girls inside the apartment ducking for cover.

The other two suspects fled the scene.

No other injuries were reported and police are considering this a justified shooting.

Neighbor James Swift heard the gunfire. He’s glad the father was able to stop at least one of the suspects from hurting his family.

“I'm glad that he met his demise before they meet theirs because he had no business trying to enter into their house,” Swift said. “Ain’t no telling what he would have done to those kids in there. Kids don't deserve that and I know they were frightened.”
