Police said a 14-year-old inside an apartment died after being shot in the head through the floor of an upstairs unit.
According to Atlanta Police Officer Stephanie Brown, officers responded to 532 Cleveland Ave. around 6:30 Monday evening for a person shot call.
When they got there, they found the teen dead from her injuries in the living room. The victim's family told police the teen was pregnant.
Right now, police believe the the fatal shot came from an apartment upstairs.
Police said the teen was visiting a friend at the apartment. They believe there were also several people inside the upstairs apartment when the shot was fired. Right now, they believe it was only one round was fired.
Detectives say the investigation is still active, and they are still working to find out more details, including whether the shooting was accidental. They are interviewing the people in the upstairs apartment as part of that investigation.
"It is an unfortunate situation," said Capt. LeAnn Browning with the Atlanta Police Department. "The age of the child - it's very heart-wrenching."
They are now asking anyone with information that could help to come forward and call Crime Stoppers.
