ATLANTA — About 100 loved ones gathered to remember the teen shot and killed in a "targeted" drive-by near Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard in southwest Atlanta.
Montrevious Pitts and two others were shot on Jan. 2.
11Alive spoke exclusively with Montrevious' mother, Keara, at a vigil Saturday.
The vigil was held in the Mechanicsville neighborhood on Windsor Street, minutes from where the shooting happened. There have been 15 incidents of violence over the past year in this area, according to crime data.
Keara said he's not taking the loss of her son well.
"He was a good child," Keara said. "He was a good person, respectful. It's nothing nobody could say bad about him—nothing."
That's how Keara wants people to remember "Trey," as his loved ones called him. At age 18, Trey was the oldest of Keara's five boys. Trey affectionately called his seven-year-old brother, Keyon, "Fat Boy."
"We played together," Keyon said. "And we laughed."
Trey's loved ones wore blue and released blue balloons after a prayer at the vigil.
"That was his favorite color," Keara said.
However, it didn't compare to how blue they felt on the inside.
"Our last conversation was he wanted me to take him to get his ID so that he could start working," Keara said.
Keara said her son had a future ahead of him and was an innocent bystander in the shooting. She said he'd never been in a situation like this. The other two victims were his friends, all 21 and under, according to Atlanta Police.
"Put the guns down," Keara said. "Put them down."
Keara said there's too much violence in this neighborhood. And Trey's loved ones pray that no other big brothers lose their chance to grow up.
"I miss him. And I love him," Keyon said.
No word on whether there has been an arrest in this shooting. 11Alive reached out for an update from Atlanta Police and was told to follow up on Monday.
