CANTON, Ga. — Deputies fatally shot suspect wanted on rape warrant in Canton, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday morning.
It all started on Friday night when deputies from Cherokee County were assisting Floyd County Sheriff's Office deputies in executing an arrest warrant for the suspect living at a home on Ficklen Church Way.
Authorities said when they arrived around 11:15 p.m., they found the suspect outside the home and said they were armed.
Deputies attempted to negotiate with the individual while the Cherokee Multi-Agency SWAT Team was called to the scene. Negotiations continued for nearly an hour before shots were fired at around 12:05 a.m., Saturday, in which the suspect was killed.
As standard protocol in officer-involved shootings, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the investigation. The GBI will release any additional details as they become available.
No deputies were reported hurt during the incident, and no other details have been released.
