DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The boyfriend of a woman found shot to death inside a crashed car outside a Walmart parking lot in DeKalb County was arrested and charged in connection with her death, the police department said.
Kjiar Prather was charged with murder in the shooting death of Sabrina Carson. He was arrested on Sunday, June 2.
The deadly incident happened on Friday, May 24, around the 8400 block of Mall Parkway on an access road near Walmart and the Mall at Stonecrest.
According to the DeKalb County Police Department, officers responded to the area around 7:30 a.m. after a report of a crash. Upon arrival, police found a vehicle off the road that had struck a light pole and power box.
Police said inside the car, they found Carson, who had been shot multiple times.
A witness at the scene told officers they saw a man, later identified as Prather, running from the car after the crash.
Family members spoke with 11Alive where they spoke about Carson's character.
"I love Sabrina. That's my heart. I have five kids that I don't know how I'm going to break the news to them," said Brian Johnson, who told 11Alive Carson was his aunt. "She's just one of those people that will give you their shirt, literally give it to you off of her back. She didn't have much, but she'll give everything she got."
Johnson previously spoke about Carson and Prather's relationship.
"He lived with her. He was seen leaving with her this morning," Johnson said. "And I have someone that saw the whole thing happen. And they also identified him."
