ATLANTA — A local family is living in fear and wanting answers as they prepare to lay their 17-year-old loved one to rest.
Sade Brooks was shot to death on the porch of her family’s southwest Atlanta home on Sunday.
Now, her family is looking to the community to help raise $6,000 to help lay her to rest.
Her family wants everyone to know that she was more than just a tragic headline. They described her as a loving teen who had her whole life in front of her.
Brooks was working toward her GED, working at Dunkin and looking forward to her future, but a violent act ended those plans.
Her family is still processing the hard reality of her absence.
“I had texted her that same day. I told her to charge her phone, and I loved her. She messaged me that she loved me too, and that was the last time I was able to talk to my sister,” said Brooks’ sister.
Brooks was gunned down on her front porch on Sunday afternoon near Lynnhaven Drive and Charlton Place. Police said her killer shot her several times.
Now, her family is left with nothing but memories, grief and unanswered questions. The man suspected of taking her life is someone the family knows.
“We slept in the same bed at a sleepover one time. Why he did this? I don’t know. We don’t have those types of answers right now as far as why. But we know who,” said Brooks’ sister.
Brooks’ sister said she was afraid to show her face because Sade’s killer hadn’t been caught.
“I feel like she deserves more going out than she received coming in, like when she was alive. Sade was a person that cared so much for other people,” her sister added.
According to Atlanta Police, the investigation is still ongoing. Sade’s family told 11Alive they plan to hold a public funeral on Monday in East Point.
