SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A man is accused of murder after a 19-year-old was shot in the chest and killed in Sandy Springs, records show.
Sandy Springs Police Department officers were called to the shooting Saturday along Roberts Drive around 3:15 p.m. The area isn't far from Chattahoochee River recreation areas and the Sandy Springs Trail.
When officers arrived, they found Aden Stone shot in the chest. Bystanders had performed life-saving efforts but Stone ultimately died at the scene, according to arrest warrants.
Records share witness accounts, detailing that people in the area saw two women and one man run into a white SUV and take off after the teen was shot. Not far from the scene, police found the SUV and performed a traffic stop - detaining the three people inside.
Arrest warrants name Devontay Trimell Coleman as the main suspect in the case. The 28-year-old was found in the front passenger of the vehicle.
Officers asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle and a passenger and Coleman said there was a gun on the floor of the passenger seat. In arrest warrants, police note that the detainees all had blood on their hands; Coleman had what appeared to be blood on his clothing.
Investigators took the three detainees in for questioning. The two women shared their version of events, both expressing they were not knowledgeable if the shooting was premeditated, documents show.
However, Coleman first gave a fake name and birthday - stating he lied to officers because he has a warrant out for his arrest due to a traffic charge, according to police. Via interviews, police learned Coleman likely first drove the getaway car before switching with one of the women.
Police, unsure why he drove to the area, believe Coleman and Stone had an altercation that ended with a single shot to the teen's chest. Officers continue to investigate.
According to warrants, police are accusing Coleman of felony murder, possession of a firearm to commit a felony and aggravated assault.
