Second person dies in Gwinnett foiled robbery that cops were told was 'road rage' shooting

A group of five youths allegedly tried to rob someone when they were shot at

LILBURN, Ga. — A second person is dead after a robbery attempt on Wednesday. 

Erik Vargas, 20, has died, police said Thursday. Junior Lanuza-Gutierrez, 16, was previously pronounced dead.

Police say a group of five men attempted to rob an unknown subject in the parking lot of 950 Indian Trail Road at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The person they were attempting to rob shot into the car, which fled the scene. 

The occupants initially told police that they were victims of road rage

The three occupants of the car who were not shot have been charged with felony murder and criminal attempt at robbery. All three were arrested and are in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. Additional charges against the trio are possible.

They are identified as Harry Richardson, 20, Anthoney Esquero, 18, and Kevin Gallardo, 17. 

Detectives are still working to identify the person or persons who actually fired the shots. They said as of Thursday, that party has not come forward.
