Security guard accused of stabbing, killing 90-year-old man at Buckhead apartment: warrants

Janet Williams, 65, is facing a felony murder charge in connection to the death of Chun Kim. It all unfolded at the Marian Road Highrise Apartments.

ATLANTA — A 90-year-old man was stabbed to death on the morning of Sept. 25. Now, warrants are revealing new details about his accused killer.

It all started on Sept. 25 around 7:45 a.m. when the Atlanta Police Department said officers responded to 760 Sidney Marcus Blvd, the address of the Marian Road Highrise Apartments -- a senior living community operated by Atlanta Housing.

The apartment complex is down the road from Talkin' Tacos in Buckhead in Atlanta's Lindbergh Morosgo neighborhood.

When officers arrived, APD said they found a 90-year-old man who had sustained multiple stab wounds. The Fulton County Medical Examiner later identified the man as Chun Kim.

On Oct. 10, Atlanta Police homicide investigators took Janet Williams, 65, into custody in connection with Kim's stabbing death. Williams was taken to the Fulton County Jail and is facing a felony murder charge, according to APD.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, 11Alive obtained warrants out of Fulton County, which said Kim had been found dead on the floor of his apartment kitchen and he had been stabbed between 50-60 times in the upper torso and face.

According to the warrants, investigators believe his caretaker left the building on Sept. 24 at 2:40 p.m. Investigators watched hours of surveillance video, in which Kim was last seen getting on the elevator to go up to his apartment.

Warrants allege that at 3:15 p.m. that same day, Williams, one of the building security guards, got into the elevator to go up to Kim's floor. At the time, warrants state she was seen wearing a dark-colored security guard uniform with matching cargo-style pants, dark-colored Crocs, glasses, and a COVID mask.

Six minutes later, she reentered the elevator and "looked stressed, and was no longer wearing her glasses or a covid mask." The warrants allege her right pant leg was torn and "appeared wet with a dark reddish stain."

On Sept.25, APD's homicide unit investigating the scene noted Williams had been watching closely and even asked police a few questions, according to the warrants.

Then, on Oct. 3, APD obtained search warrants to search Williams' home.

APD said officers had collected her security guard uniform, Croc shoes, and bag.

"One of the pairs of pants collected had a tear on the right part of the thigh area, which had been sown back together," the warrants stated.

When asked about the pants, the warrants reveal Williams didn't remember how her pants were torn.

According to the warrants, Williams also had a large bandage over her right thigh, and when she removed it, she had a "significant wound." The warrants said Williams claimed she had hurt herself opening the garage door.

Williams is now facing a felony murder charge.
