ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department is investigating after three people were shot in the Dixie Hills neighborhood on Tuesday evening.
Witnesses told 11Alive's Cody Alcorn that rapper Lil Baby was in the vicinity when the shooting happened but was told he was not shot.
According to police, officers responded to the area of Verbena Street NW shortly before 5 p.m. in reference to several people shot. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the arm and a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the back. Officers later located a 23-year-old man who was at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Police said everyone involved was alert, conscious and breathing -- meaning they're expected to survive.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a music video was being filmed in the area at the time of the incident. Police also said that multiple people left the scene at the time that shots were fired.
Chasity Hill was going about her Tuesday evening, excited to spot Lil Baby and take a video of the rapper.
"I was just waiting for Lil Baby to buy my tacos up," she said.
But that excitement quickly turned into chaos. Hill got caught in the middle when gunfire erupted in the area. She said she was next to two of the people who were shot.
"I thought it was just prop for the video shoot, and then we found out later it wasn't," Hill said.
Police cannot confirm at this time who was recording a music video but said it appears to be an isolated and targeted incident.
APD also said during an interview that the people who were shot were not part of the video production team for the music video, but there may have been "individuals involved in the totality of the production that were involved in the incident."
A resident in the area, Eric Haynes, told 11Alive's Angelina Salcedo that his 7-year-old daughter was outside the home when shots rang out. Tonight, he's glad she's safe.
"Blessed, of course, I'm blessed. I wouldn't want anything to happen to my daughter," Hayes stated.
But the frustration in the community continues to grow. Atlanta City Councilman Byron Amos of District 3 represents the area and said he was on his way to a meeting to discuss issues like gun violence when he got the call about the shooting.
"We have had several shootings, several killings in the district, unfortunately," Amos said. "It's all hands on deck, everybody; our law enforcement and this community need to come together to solve these issues."
This continues to be an active investigation, police said.
