CONLEY, Ga. — A man is now dead after he exchanged gunfire with law enforcement early Tuesday morning, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
It happened at the 1600 block of Bagpipe Place in Conley, where authorities said that U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, GBI agents and Task Force Officers were executing a federal search warrant for drug charges.
When law enforcement agencies entered the home, GBI officials said they saw the man run into one of the rooms, allegedly coming out with what appeared to be a gun. He then fired his weapon at the agents, according to the news release.
GBI officials said the agents then returned fire and hid from shots inside the home.
The news release stated that agents heard gunfire coming from the man's "last known location but did not engage."
GBI said that the agents heard a single shot and later found the man dead. It's unclear who shot the man at this time.
Authorities are waiting to notify the man's family or friends before releasing his name.
His body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab, where officials will conduct an autopsy.
GBI agents will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
