37-year-old man found guilty in deadly 2021 Cobb County apartment shooting, district attorney says

Sony Lebrun was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and two counts of gun possession.

AUSTELL, Ga. — A Cobb County jury has found a 37-year-old man who was involved in a 2021 deadly apartment shooting guilty, according to District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr

Sony Lebrun was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and two counts of gun possession.

According to the district attorney, police responded to a shots fired call on August 6, 2021, at the Premier Lane Apartments in Austell. When they arrived on the scene, they found a vehicle crashed at the gate of the apartments, and the victim, Eric Stone, was shot to death in the driver seat of the car.

Witnesses on the scene at the time of the shooting believed Lebrun was responsible. The District Attorney's Office says witnesses also said Lebrun and the victim were known to have an "ongoing dispute" after a road rage incident. Shortly after the deadly incident, one individual ran to retrieve a gun from their apartment and fired shots, but no one was hurt in the second shooting.

Police then later brought Lebrun in for questions, where they were able to gather evidence from his phone and surveillance footage confirming his location at the time of the shooting, according to Broady.

District Attorney Broady said Lebrun's sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
