CLAYTON, Ga. — A South Carolina reserve deputy was taken into custody Wednesday after an intense road rage incident on Interstate 75 south.
Clayton County Police said Johnnie Bryant is a deputy with the reserve unit of the Hampton County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina, but Hampton officials will only confirm that he's affiliated with them.
According to police, they were called to I-75 South and Tara Boulevard for a drive-by shooting call. Authorities said this happened in the midst of a road rage incident.
Police said Bryant and Tabatha Abbott each claimed the other person cut them off.
Abbott's sedan, was struck seven times by bullets fired from the tractor trailer Bryant was driving, Clayton authorities said. They said Bryant was off-duty during the incident.
Jail records show Abbott is charged with obstruction and Bryant is facing the charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
