Spalding County detention deputy arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting inmate

Quentin Morgan, 22, is charged with violation of oath of office, sexual assault and sodomy, the sheriff's office said.

GRIFFIN, Ga. — A former detention deputy has been arrested and fired for allegedly sexually assaulting an inmate at the Spalding County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

The arrest comes after a jail inmate notified staff that then-detention deputy Quentin Morgan, 22, had come into his room and assaulted him.

The Spalding County Sheriff's Office immediately began its investigation. Deputies interviewed the inmate, reviewed video footage from the day of the alleged incident and gathered evidence.

After investigating, Morgan waived his Miranda rights and was interviewed, and he eventually confessed to the crimes. He was fired, arrested and booked into the Spalding County Jail, where he is being held with no bond.

“When speaking with the Judge we requested that Morgan be denied bond. He broke the law; he will be held accountable and face the consequences," Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said.

Morgan had been employed by the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office since April.
