Man wanted for murder in Allahnia Lenoir case leads game wardens on jet ski, foot chase before capture

Steven Oboite, who was wanted for murder in Lenoir's presumed death, avoided arrest for nearly two years.

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A man wanted for murder in the Allahnia Lenoir case led authorities on a chase while on a jet ski before his long-awaited capture.

It comes after Steven Oboite avoided arrest for nearly two years in Lenoir's presumed death.

Lenoir was reported missing Aug. 1, 2022. Police said in September 2022 they believe the 24-year-old "was murdered and that her body was disposed of." Her body has still not been found. Three men were wanted in her presumed death, including Oboite.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources confirmed it arrested Oboite in Bartow County on June 1 on Lake Allatoona. DNR officials said he violated multiple waterway laws before officers realized he had several active warrants.

Obiote allegedly refused to give game wardens his name after they stopped him for a violation in the no-wake zone. He then allegedly rode away on his jet ski, leading officers on a short chase.

Macey Hudson, who witnessed the jet ski chase, recorded the capture on video, showing DNR game wardens taking Oboite into custody.

Another witness video showed authorities chasing the jet ski Oboite appeared to be on. Hudson said that the pursuit lasted for 10 minutes.

In one of the videos, viewers can hear and see game wardens chasing after the jet ski with their sirens on.

11Alive has uploaded the videos from witnesses below. The story continues below the video.

Hudson said she was pulling her boat into the no-wake zone when she noticed DNR game wardens had their lights on and spotted two other jet skis.

She added that she noticed a man in the water that the game wardens were trying to help, assisting him onto their boat.

Hudson added that they were unable to pull the man up because he jerked away. He then moved around to his jet ski and "flew off" on it, which is when she said the pursuit began, and she began recording.

DNR officials said Obiote drove the jet ski onto the shore and then ran into a wooded area near the Holiday Marina, leading authorities on a foot chase. Game wardens were then able to take him into custody after the foot chase.

Obiote was charged with boating under the influence, willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, violation of rules of the road for boat traffic, and giving a false name, address, or birthdate to a law enforcement officer.

More on the Allahnia Lenoir case

Allahnia Lenoir was last seen on July 30, 2022, at a Midtown apartment complex at the 1600 block of Peachtree Street NE. Her family said she was supposed to be visiting friends.

For months, Lenoir's family handed out flyers, hoping anyone with information would come forward.

Police officially released their missing person advisory on Aug. 1, 2022.

Meanwhile, a private investigator was hired by Lenoir's family to help with the search. APD then updated the public on Sept. 20, 2022, stating it believed the 24-year-old "was murdered and that her body was disposed of." Her body has not been found.

Three men have now been arrested in the case, including Oboite, Diante Reynolds and Nicholas Hendrickson.

Both Oboite and Reynolds are being charged with murder in her case, and Hendrickson was charged in 2022 for allegedly lying to officers and tampering with evidence.

Reynolds was recently denied a reconsideration of bond in March as he continues to await trial.
