'We will never stop fighting': Metro Atlanta man sentenced for trafficking 16-year-old girl

Trayon Moore, 28, was sentenced to 25 years with the first 15 years to be served in prison.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County man has been convicted and sentenced to 25 years for trafficking a 16-year-old girl out of a hotel in Tucker in February 2020, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced in a release on Monday.

According to a release, 28-year-old Trayon Moore pleaded guilty on Feb. 16 to two counts of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude for knowingly harboring a person under 18 for the purpose of sexual servitude and providing a person under the age of 18 for the purpose of sexual servitude.

The Stone Mountain man was sentenced to 25 years, with the first 15 to be served in prison and the rest on probation. He is also required to register as a sex offender.

According to a release, the teenage girl was recovered by the attorney general's human trafficking prosecution unit, along with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and the DeKalb County Police Department. She had been missing from the Cedartown area for six weeks at the time she was found.

Carr said that the human trafficking task force continues to hold people accountable for their actions.

"With each new conviction, we're sending a strong message to buyers and sellers that you will be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," he said. "We will never stop fighting to end human trafficking in our state."

The human trafficking prosecution unit led and assisted 81 case investigations and rescued and assisted 129 victims last year, according to the attorney general's office. The unit has also obtained 30 new convictions since January 2023 and has 38 defendants who are currently under indictment for sex or labor trafficking, with some facing charges in multiple jurisdictions across the state.
