DALLAS, Ga. — Multiple arrest warrants have been issued for a 56-year-old Florida man after he allegedly stole medical stretchers from multiple funeral homes.

The initial warrant was announced in a press release by Dallas police on Tuesday.

According to that release, Michael Christopher Johnson is charged with entering an automobile with intent to commit theft. On May 6, Dallas Police responded to a vehicle break-in at Benson's Funeral Home and found that a medical stretcher had been stolen from one of the funeral home's vehicles.

Detectives collected evidence and connected the theft to several other incidents in the metro area, according to a press release. They identified Johnson as the suspect and obtained the warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday, Acworth police released a statement announcing the issuing of a warrant for Johnson's arrest for felony entering an automobile, misdemeanor theft by taking and misdemeanor criminal trespass/damage to property. On May 8, Acworth police responded to Georgia Funeral Care to investigate a damaged vehicle from which a mortuary stretcher had been stolen. During the investigation, the department was made aware of a similar theft and used surveillance footage to confirm the same suspect had been involved in multiple incidents in nearby jurisdictions.

Johnson has an "extensive history of theft," the release said. He is currently wanted in at least two metro Atlanta counties. Anyone with any further information regarding Johnson is encouraged to contact the Dallas Police Department at 770-443-8100 or the Acworth Police Department at 770-974-1232.
