CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. — A 13-year-old Clarke County student has been injured in a neighborhood shooting early Monday morning, the school district said.
A spokesperson with the district said that the student was injured before school hours.
Athens-Clarke County Police Department later said that the shooting happened in the area of Chalfont Drive.
Police added that the teen's injuries are "non life-threatening." Authorities are sill investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
The school district released the following statement below:
This morning, a CCSD student was injured in a neighborhood shooting before school hours. This is an active investigation; therefore, we will not release additional information at this time. Counselors are on hand to speak with students who may have witnessed this event. Please keep our students in your thoughts.
