CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A man is now in custody after authorities said he barricaded himself inside a mobile home in Carroll County after leading law enforcement on a chase in a stolen vehicle.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), deputies spotted a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe on Kings Highway and attempted a traffic stop. The driver swiftly reversed and rammed into the front of the deputy's patrol car. He then fled the scene and drove the truck into the woods, leading authorities on a chase, they said.
Deputies attempted to search for the man with the K-9 unit but were unable to locate him.
Hours later, DCSO learned a nearby home had been broken into and the homeowner's Dodge Ram had been stolen. Authorities located the vehicle at a mobile home in the Villa Forrest Mobile Home Park near Highway 61 in Carroll County.
The suspect allegedly was inside the home armed with a handgun and refused to exit, prompting a multi-agency response from the Carroll County SWAT team, Carrollton Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and Georgia State Patrol.
Authorities removed him from the home and recovered his weapon, which was determined to be stolen from a separate incident.
The suspect was brought back to Douglas County and was charged with several charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing, obstruction, theft by receiving motor vehicle, and criminal interference with government property. He also faces several traffic violations.
Carroll County authorities also said a second person was taken into custody at the home.
